Hello,
I heard that elgg is very slow compared to other systems. Is this true? I want to create social network for artists, but do not know what system to use.. I think about Elgg or buddypress.. but buddypress do not have any good photo gallery plugins yet.. And I am afraid to use Elgg becouse of performance problems.. Can you suggest me something ? :) thank you

You must log in to post replies.Yes, you're right. But if you use it for a small site, i think you don't need to worry about. Also use memcached if possible:)
Don't let the fear of performance keep you from using Elgg if it has the features you need. This site is ran on the platform and is probably supporting quite a few users so should give a fair idea on Elgg performance. If performance is a big issue, you would probably be better off going with the platform you want and need and be more selective how you host it. Good luck on your artist site regardless!
What specific kinds of things will slow up an Elgg site?
Driftwork, in the past view system was the short throat of Elgg, I think it's still the same with the newest version.
If you want to speed up Elgg, sometimes turning off internal Elgg logging helps significantly.
Thanks for the advice Mike.
Mike, how do you turn off internal Elgg logging? And what are the negative consequences of doing so? Thanks.
