i am new to elgg and php so will not be able to do a plugin or anything smart like that. i want to display some llinks on the (left) sidebar in (river style dashboard view) but struggling to do so. I have tried playing with layout files in the folder *\elgg-1.7.3\views\default\canvas\layouts but didn't work. Is there an easy way to be able to do so? I am using custom_index plugin and have looked into layout folders there but didn't work. can someone please help this poor newbie? Many thanks.
Also, the recent members area only shows members with icons. Again, is there an easy way to modify it to display all members (not only with icons or avatars). Many thanks.

You must log in to post replies. Can anyone answer my question above please?????????????
can anyone suggest a solution to my problem above?
elgg173\mod\custom_index\views\default\canvas\layouts\new_index.php.
if you're comfortable coding in php, you;ll be able to figure what to change..
if not, it will be difficult.
spend some time to learn to do what you want to do.
And, how to cusomize a riverdashboard left coulumn? The architecture of elgg it s king of confusing for new newbies...
@stylin take a look at this plugin: http://community.elgg.org/pg/plugins/project/384903/developer/DementiaArmand/riverdashboard-with-user-menu
P.S. Do your homework xD
thanks rjcalifornia. That was helpful. but the new members aren't displayed correctly. I have members listed vertically (one member per row) rather that in a grid like fashion ( 6 members in each row). Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
modified newestmembers.php files to get it fixed. simply changed the div class to members_icon from newestMembers.
