I have a Mac and want to create my own social network site. I have used on a webhost before, but no want to host it from my Mac. I have PHP 5.2.8 and Mysql and of course Apache. I have all the Elgg files put in /Library/WebServer/Documents. I have the DynDns connect so it should my domain. So when I go to www.thettyn.com/install.php it just comes up the text and not the install. I've tired to create a mysql database but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone also tell me how to add me. I'm pretty sure you do it through Terminal, but it wasn't working. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.
Thanks in advance.

You must log in to post replies.Apache needs to be configured to use PHP. There are plenty of web resources that explain how to enable PHP for Mac OS X.
I have gone in to httd.conf and removed the # for the PHP. Meaning PHP should be enabled.
You can confirm that php is running by creating a page with the text:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
And then view it in the browser. If you see the text rather than the information about php, you still have Apache configuration issues.
Yes I did have an issue with PHP, but is now fixed, but am still having problems with MySQL.
Yeah same here. I think I got MySQL to turn on using terminal, but can't get it to create a database using terminal.
@Tyler - you could use the MAMP package for this - it includes Apache, MySQL, PHP, and phpMyAdmin all in one package ready to go.
Otherwise, you can run mysql's command line client and create a database. You can get information by searching google for something like: create mysql database mac
I have MAMP Pro which I tired using, but can't seem to get my domain name to MAMP.
Like I said, you can also create the database using the mysql client if you don't want to use a single package like MAMP. You might think about finding a Mac forum that deals with setting up web servers. So far all of your issues haven't been related to Elgg.
Yes they have not be directly at elgg, but for me to even get elgg installed. I need these things. And MySQL Cleint doesn't seem to work under system prefences.
