API update

Hi there - I was told that a new version of elgg is coming very soon with a lot of changes to the API... is that true? Where can I follow news of the core development? Thanks!

There is no new version of Elgg coming with lots of changes to the API. The next version is primarily about the visual interface.
Arguably ECML in 1.8 means that templating can be used to implement functionality that once would have required use of the API to accomplish.
PS: ECML has been around before v1.8 - since about v.1.1 ( Oliver Lille had posted the "Custom_MarkUp" PlugIn (which seems to have now disappeared). That version did seems to have approx twice the number tag groups for various PlugIns, etc..
