Field selections not saving

Hello....  I did a brief search and did not find my answer so...

I created a profile form and all works as would be expected except for these 2 things:

1) I create a field called "age" ,, the type is "Pull Down (Select)" then I set options, example: 18 - 24, 25 - 30, 31 - 35 etc etc etc... then I save

PROBLEM: When I go to the profile and select age all the options are in the wrong order, not in the order I entereed the options... Example in the profile: Age: 45- 50, 18 - 24, 71 - 75.

In other words, the order that I save the options is not the order it actually saves them,,, this occurs with both numeric and text entries into the options.

2) Problem if I go to my profile and select "country" and I select "United States" as my country from the drop down and save,, all is as expected,, BUT.. if I return to update my profile ( in some other field or even on another tab ) , my selection of United States that I had made prior is forgotten and instead reverts to the country that is at the top of the options list " Mexico".

so this means everytime a member returns to update a profile they have to RE-SELECT every previous option everytime.

I hope I explained this good enough.

I hope some body can point me in the right direction....  Is this possibly and .htaccess issue?

  • If you look at the previous discussion in this group, you'll see that there is a bug in the way that core Elgg 1.7.1 handles select boxes. This will be fixed for Elgg 1.7.2.

On the other hand, the first bug you mention was also a core bug, but it was fixed in Elgg 1.7.1.  There should be no way that select box definitions are displayed in the wrong order unless you somehow did not update to Elgg 1.7.1 properly.

Correction: My mistake. These bugs are both in core Elgg 1.7.1 (see below).

  • What version of Elgg are you actually running?

  • I appreciate your responce, sorry I missed the previous discussion...

Release - 1.7.1, Version - 2010040201..( it is  a fresh install, not an updated from a previous version, it is installed in the root and not a sub-directory)

... it is a installed by my hosting company, Go Dad on shared service,,,, I know in the past with other work I have done with Joomla, etc etc,, GoDad sometimes has server requirements that are counter to optimal script performance, but on the other hand they do allow a person some freedom to "tweak" settings.

Thank You, and thanks for a great set of scripts that are really needed in Elgg.

  • Hi Kevin, I have a similar/same problem.  On my "add content" form I have all the UK counties (by country) listed in a drop down select box, but the order is jumbled and beard no relationship to what was entered and it defaults to what should be the bottom of the list (sorry Wigtownshire!) rather than the desired "blank" field.

I have a search definition or two set up, and the default is "Avon" rather than a blank field, and the order is jumbled again.  I am using 1.7.1 as well, upgraded from 1.6.2.

  • As it turns out, these are both core Elgg 1.7.1 bugs that will be fixed in Elgg 1.7.2.

    See:

    http://trac.elgg.org/ticket/2126

    http://trac.elgg.org/ticket/2171

  • Thank You for researching that and determining that it was not an issue with form add on but rather Elgg itself.

    thanks again
