Hi,
I'm trying to install elgg on my webserver.
The Web-Root is /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/ where all elgg files were installed.
I created a folder /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/uploads/ for data storage, but the installer says:
Your data directory /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/ must be outside of your install path.
How can I do this? Folders outsute httpdocs were not writeable :(

You must log in to post replies. Here's some documentation on how to change permissions for the data dir, but I'm not sure if it will help because it looks like you're on shared hosting. http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Installation#2._Create_a_data_folder
Alternatively, you can ask your provider if they will set up a place to store data outside of httpdocs where the web server has write access.
That approach should work but be sure to configure apache to not serve files from /httpdocs/uploads!
