Do you have any search plugins installed on your Elgg? I know of the Form and related plugins and the Profile Manager . I like these as they allow users to actually search in any multiple created fields.
Do you have any form plugins like the ones above or if not how do you find the standard member search which I think are just tags???
I really like my members to be able to search using specific fields they have entered their information in.
Your thoughts ....

intheloop.me looks like a nice site design. I have the Profile_manager plugin. It does not fully work on 1.7.1. I used to use it on 1.6.1 and it worked fine. Transferred it to 1.7.1 and it stopped working properly. The search section went weird. I dont do PHP. I code in ASP so I cant really fix it. Waiting for it to be fixed on 1.7.1 so I can use it again. Just was looking to see what other people use and how they set up their site for their users to search and find each other ...

@Sim2k : We modified the members plugin to search for members depending on the" year of admission to our institution", the value of which is fetched form the profile fields for our site at http://m4medicine.com.

Sim2K, the easiest thing to do is to rebuild the profile_manager plugin. With a few simple modifications, you can perform any search you want, by any field you want. You can look at how it's done on intheloop.me.
