But wait there is more!!! As a last gasp prior to zipping it up (requires a db as well...) I deleted ALL the plugin code and the dir (as you recommended) and re-ftp'd everything back out...

POOF.

It works now. Not sure what I did that made elgg have a brainfart. I had verified it via ftp syncing several times....

How many entries does your elgg_datalists table have?

as i wrote to you the table has 28 entries 

i also did a core test, that's what hes telling me:

Urm...you did see the giant warning saying not to run tests on a production site, right?  That failure doesn't have anything to do with your problem.

The best course of action is to disable all 3rd party plugins and then enable them one at a time.  If you put an empty file named "disabled" in a plugin directory it will disable the plugin.

my host now upgraded to 96 MB but i still get this f*** error :-( 

96mb ? not much.. try doing 256mb in yr php.ini.. even 512 mb ;-)
