API like facebook and twitter?

Hello,
i was wondering is it possible to get elgg api to work like facebook, were people can develop games and apps for the community etc...? without compromizing securities or any sensitave data that can mess up the system or members

so its possible to contact zynga for example and deal with them in hocking up their games like they did with facebook etc...? just an example by the way :-)
So did you find a way to run Zynga (or others) apps in Elgg?
