ELGG 1.7 installation with an error message, Your data directory /data/ is not writable.

the error "Your data directory /data/ is not writable.", the data directory is 777 now, but it still happens.
i have no idea to solve the issue. please help me out here, THX.

There are many reasons why PHP may not be able to write to a directory beyond ordinary file permissions.
These include open_basedir restrictions and SELinux restrictions. Unfortunately the details tend to be server specific, so you may want to ask your hosting provider.
two months ago, i installed 1.6.1 on the same server and it works well. but now 1.7 edition with the error. so maybe have other reasons.
