I just stumbled across the Elgg Pricing page at http://elgg.com/pricing.php and have a question.
Is this something new, or something that has always been there?
I thought Elgg was completely open source. In particular, I thought that according to the license that anything that is offered in a distribution had to be made available to everybody. So I was confused by paid-for self-hosted licenses that appear to have more features than the free community version.
Can somebody please clarify this for me.
Thanks,
doug

Where are the blog entries like http://elggnews.com/pg/blog/brett/read/86/a-word-on-donations-open-source-and-the-elgg-community-site listed above. The elggnews.com domain seems to have expired or gone into placeholder status.
I'm trying to understand the current dual license system in place here.
Thanks,
doug
The CMS expert site has a mirror of the original post: http://www.cms-expert.com/2010/01/18/introducing-an-enterprise-edition-of-elgg/
What's happened in the past year:
As part of this transition, all the blog posts dealing with elgg.com were removed and the blog moved to blog.elgg.org. Starting in Nov (or was it Oct) 2010, there was no company responsible for the development of Elgg. Thematic Networks still has an interested in Elgg since they run elgg.com and also produce a set of proprietary plugins for Elgg.
