Bugs in elgg.org site (Feb 2010)

  1. usability issue: selecting "Groups" from dropdown menu leads to a page where I cannot get a list of groups that I belong to. In order to get to that list, I need to go to my profile and use the group membership widget (which is limited to 9 groups)
  2. There is a floating '.' on elgg.org/index.php in the plugins box
  3. usability issue: clicking on any link for bug reports/patches takes you to http://trac.elgg.org/ which is a mostly blank page. This likely scares off some users. I know this is the default page on Trac for multiple projects. There is probably a way to make that page more user friendly
  4. On the About page, the plugin link takes you to the old plugin index
  5. Same issue with themes as above
  6. Same issue on http://elgg.org/plugins.php with the Community Plugins link
  7. The button on the main community page needs some modifications to prevent that annoying flash the first time you mouse over it. It must be using different background images. Better to use the same background image and change the offset.
  8. On the main community page, the plugins and core bug tracker links both take you to the core Trac
  • I missed a bad link:

On the groups page (1), wouldn't it be better to still send the user to the world groups page but include a sidebar section that has the links to my groups? This is what is in svn and I think it works better.

    (7) depends on caching, how close you are to the server, how big your pipe is.

    (3) could be fixed without skinning Trac - a wiki page could be created on Trac that lists the two repositories and explain when to use them or you could just create a custom page on this site like plugins.php - call it bugs.php and include links to the core and plugins repository. The link I'm talking about here is on the index page of elgg.org where it says: "Report issues: bug tracker"

  • Groups page is now working as I expect - thanks!
