Hi,
My site would really benefit from the 'Plugins and themes' plugin that Elgg uses.
Does anyone know if this plugin is freely available?
If it is where is it?
If it is not, how can I get it??
:-)

@Adrian -- this (PlugIns&Themes&LangPacks) has to be simply a stylized variation of the "Files" PlugIn.. Should be able to use Files with extended/ overloaded handlers/views.
Have not got my head around PHP yet so a little slow. I have tried to upload the 'file' plugin with a different name 'stands' and I have renamed the 'file' identification php in world, start, index and so on. I still have the original files plugin enabled.
The plugin will not enable. I presume I am missing something???
Thanks for your reply Dhrup
Adrian
;-O
did you rename the "mod/file" to ?mod/stands" only ?
There's a lot more to change within (inside) the code ;-(
you must have missed other code... handlers, views....
Cheers Dhrup,
I will have a go and let you know
Adrian
PS: I played the same thing with external pages just for fun.
suggestion try grep the whole folder for "file"
This is exactly the plugin I've been trying to get my hands on. All I want to do is display my files in a tabbed view, based upon pre-defined categories.
I've been trying to make something like it, but can't get it work.
Would be cool if Elgg released they're version of it, so we could create new plugins from that like an base.
I agree Simox
We've tried the Curverider crew, but they won't play. It can't be much of a job for the guys who know what they're doing ? ? ?
heh heh..;-) guys guys... we can't ask them to give us everything...really! IF we look at some of the remarks made -- Elgg IS extensible - can be bent and shaped to do almost anything. The community.elgg, org site itself is a plain vanilla Elgg vers + PLUGINS. After studying the Elgg *API* - which is a BIG freebie -one should realize the *design* of Elgg. It may take some initial work to understand the 'extensibility' it provides. After that making it dance is "not much of a job".
What I and suggested for Adrian to do with cloning a PlugIn - I have done with external pages to create 'extendedpages' just to see how ot would go - and voila I had another new plugin which I could play with - *and twist and bend and break.. the I lost interest and scrapped it, moved on to my real work.
The main point is - we need to spend some loving hours wth the Elgga's code to understand how she does her tricks.
I agree totally and still can't believe that all this is free.
But for a non programmer to see something that they really, really want for their non-profit making website and realise how easily it can be done by the right person, it gets frustrating and causes many sleepless nights trying to read a completely foreign language.
I'm no slouch when it comes to learning new stuff and am a firm believer in 'you only get out what you put in'. I'm a motor mechanic by trade and started looking at web design as a hobby. I've come a long way, written stand alone applications for windows, designed, developed and sold websites to small businesses, taken concepts to reality and held my own against a number of professionals in this industry. But when I can't do something I get frustrated..........
Sorry if I offended, but I still can't come up with the mod I want : (
