How to add an extra field on the register form

Good Morning all,

Apologies if my question is very simplistic. I've recently installed ELGG and I'm pretty impressed.

I would like to add another input field when visitors sign up, can you tell me how I can do this please?

I do not have any experience with PHP so was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

As a beginner, you're better off using plugins to extend forms.
There're some plugins that can help you with this:
Profile Manager (maybe what you need)

Forms

Note: Use those releases that are compatible with your Elgg version.
