A2 ? we just migrated out from A2's VPS (LXA/Kloxo) there ;-)
Are you using their LXA/Kloxo or SSH ?

• apache
  
• mod_php
  
• "php configs" u confuze - only need 1 php.ini at top most level
  
• "ownership" -> aha - u *will screw yourself if u go in as SSH "root" to do chown's etc - B V carefulz,, be warned --> SSH cmnd level linux is way too muxho power for most people.

I changed some settings in lxa/kloxo this is only change I made not direct to php.ini

If I change from suphp, to mod_php ... Will I need to chown for it to work, I am sure I had trouble with this last time I tried.  are you aware what chown it should be.

p.s could not get a user to work for ssh, only root works for me.

when i  am in a good mood -- you'll get my time ; - ) get yrself a $10 headset.. seriously.. coz i can tawk faster than type. skype ++ screenshare dusz wonders for comms !!
