Ban users

Hello Folks:)

I know that the site has a way to report and investigate users but is there a way to ban a user? Example Tumblr losing there Apple privileges due to someone posting child porn..is there a way to ban the person if they were to post this instead of having to delete website or content that complies with the site?

Thank ya,

  • Which version of Elgg are you using? With the current version of Elgg (or let's say with all the Elgg version of the last few years at least) you don't need any additional plugin to ban users. The ban option is available in Elgg by default already. You can ban a user by the "Ban user" menu entry in the hover menu (you get it when clicking on a user profile icon as admin) or you have the ban option within the Admin options on a user's profile page. As an admin you can also delete any offending content created by another user (which you possibly want to do in addition to banning the user as the user's content remains on the site and is still visible and accessible by other users when the user is banned). Alternatively, you can also delete a user account (delete option is also available in the hover menu and on the profile page of a user if you are logged in as admin). Deleting a user account will also remove ALL content this user has ever created (including comments, messages, likes etc.).
