Can anyone provide pointers for migrating elgg to a new install on another server? I tried using the information found at (http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/How_do_I_move_my_site%3F#Search_and_replace_on_database_dump_file) only it doesn't work.
I have tried performing this after setting up a new elgg susyem using the setup Wizard and by editing the settings file directly. In both cases it's almost like elgg ignores these settings and creates new stuff anyway.
Anyone ever done this?
Thanks, John

ok that is correct stuff - I'd have used phpMyAdmin to load though (not used Sun's Admin GUI)
Can you see your db via phpMyAdmin ? If can try load file jpg screenshot of phpMyAdmin
This is maddening sickening because I am sure it has to be something simple ;-) -- we can't see b/c we're not looking at your screen... i got Adobe Conference Trial -- if you're still stuck...

on now;;;
Yeah, that's the prefix. You definitely owe me some help on the documentation now ;)
looks like u r done ? ;-)
Cash, you got it. But, Im not out of the woods yet. It's the refix, so how do I fix it? Nothing seems to happen if I comment out or add the prefix to the settings file. Do I have to change somewhere else, or on the DB side.
And BTW, I am also a part time author so I love messing with Technical Documentation :)
our mssgs all crossed.. "has to be something simple ;-)" whattaday !
@Cash
now start charging him normal hourly rates ;-)
OK, I am officialy stupid. I change the elgg prefix to egg_ and it worked.
Sometimes I get so caught up in questions, i don't think for myself :)
Cash, I will look into the documentation. Also, now that we have this mess cleaned up, I can start creating plug-ins and contributing to the cause. Point me to anywhere I can be of help.
Thank you both!!
John
I'm not convinced still that this is a clean process though. After all of this my css and half of the icons don't show. If I try again, the css comes back, some icons appear, some do not.
For my particular instance I was hoping for a clean migration, I am loosing hoep though. I will keep messing with it and we'll see what I get.
John
I've done it before and it was clean. You're not trying to use Elgg 1.5 are you?
Also, re css - Elgg tells the broswer to cache it for ten days so that can cause funky things.
