Does anyone know of an easy way to extract user email addresses from the database that would work in Elgg 1.8. ? My Newsletter plugin no longer works and am looking for an alternative.

You must log in to post replies. The CSV exporter plugin should allow you to do that. It's only available for Elgg 1.9 or newer here on the community site (https://elgg.org/plugins/1939447) but there's a version for 1.8 available at https://github.com/ColdTrick/csv_exporter/releases/tag/v1.0.
But you might first set up the cronjobs again on your new server as you mentioned that cronjobs no longer work (https://elgg.org/discussion/view/2630047/garbage-collector-15#elgg-object-2630262) and the newsletter plugin might also need a cronjob to work.
Many thanks for CSV exporter. It works perfectly. Now if the Newsletter continues not to work, I can email users from a stand alone script.

iionly, I have finally gotten around the Newsletter script problem by using an alternate mass mailing plugin - Galli Mass Mailer. It works OK with the 5 min cron. I have been able to inform my users of our upgrade to SSL so they can change their bookmark for my site.
