Adding an image in a widget

I have a php script that generates a barcode based on some information that it is given. When I use this script on my server (standalone) it works fine. However, when I put it in a widget it isnt creating the image it is just a bunch of letters/crazy symbols. I know that it uses the gd library and if it works standalone it should be enabled. Any ideas why it wouldnt work in a widget?

    I myself do not have any real use for this,
