Images don't show after installation

Hello everybody,

I've just installed the last version of elgg, and images don't show. Nothing to help me in the FAQ. What could I tell you for you to help me solving this issue?

I already can tell that I can see uploaded pictures.

The website is here.

  • Is the php GD extension installed on the server? From what I can see is that avatar images are showing up. May be a permissions issue?

  • Hello RJ,

It's installed. I've set up the mod file (and subfolders) 777, but still the same. :(

  • @Anthony do the webserver log any error? can you send it?

  • I don't really know if there is any error in the webserver logs. Logs of yesterday, when I installed elgg. I'm sorry Javier, I haven't cleaned them, but I guess you won't have difficulties to find the right lines. Thanks!!

  • That is not the error log but the access log. There is most likely a separate log for errors.

  • For a start, test it without ANY 3rd party plugins enabled (just in case you are using any 3rd party plugin not compatible with Elgg 2).

Does it work to upload a non-image file (e.g. a text file or pdf) using the files plugin? Can you download it after uploading? Try it with a small file. If this works, the problem is unlikely something wrong with the data directory. But if this doesn't work either the problem is something with the data directory. Is your data directory located outside the document root folder? Is your server's php config using the open_basedir parameter? If open_basedir is used you would need to add the path to the data directory to the open_basedir list of directories.

If a non-image file works, the php GD extension might not be installed or correctly enabled. Or it might just be an issue of post_max_size and/or memory_limit set too small for processing / resizing the images files. Try it with a small image for testing in any case first.

  • @Juho: It seems I haven't set it up, sorry. :/

    @iionly:
    - deactivated all 3rd party plugins (even all plugins, except default theme plugin).
    - I can upload PDF but no default icon
    - I can download the PDF.
    - I can download a small PDF <150ko.
    - data directory outside installation directory: /home/graphici/elgg/data/ vs /home/graphici/elgg/html/
    - About open_basedir: phpini says no value.
    - The website is on a shared server. I guess php GD extension is functional.
    - "issue of post_max_size and/or memory_limit set too small for processing / resizing the images files": I don't think so. I encounter the issue with default images (have a look on the website's homepage, please).

  • I'm sure your server has an error log. Ask your host how to get access to it.

  • Damned! Images shows at the office, but not at home (different computers under Windows 7). Browser issue?

  • You seem to be missing some files or at least they are not available to the client. From Chrome developer tools,

    GET http://elgg.graphic-instinct.com/_graphics/elgg_sprites.png 404 (Not Found)
    GET http://elgg.graphic-instinct.com/mod/aalborg_theme/graphics/bars.png 404 (Not Found)
