(2) Please create _graphics folder at root level and add spacer.gif there.
You have listed requests but given no explanation or background. To my understanding neither of these things are needed. What problem are you running into?
Installation via composer. I think a symlink from _graphics to vendor/elgg/elgg/_graphics would help for BC with 3rd party plugins.
Please report issues to the GitHub project first. We can discuss them here too of course.
