After years of just using tags for everything, my eyes were finally opened this last week to custom taxonomies and just how powerful they can be. AFter reading a wp article http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/06/04/using-custom-taxonomies-to-create-a-movie-database I came to realize just how lacking the entire tag concept is when it's a single taxonomy.

Great article by the way, and would directly apply to elgg, at least in theory.

So my question is, does elgg currently support custom taxonomies?

I want to be able to search specific areas like a users 'interests tags' or the 'custom fields' I setup in the profiles. With custom taxonomies I can then create specific tag clouds based upon the taxonomy I setup....
