I know it is a common question, but I haven`t found a way to do that for the moment. It was a goal for Elgg 1.5, but they removed it. Anyway, I think some sites have been upgraded yet. Is there any documentation on this? We have build a big community on Elgg 0.9 and we cannot start from zero in an Elgg 1.2 installation. Can you help us?

All blogs, posts, interviews w/ Dave and Ben that I've read -- all mention how OpenDD would facilitate migration from v <1 to 1+.
It's being worked on. I expect to see something on this in the next few months. Elgg 1.5 is the priority right now.
So, we will have to wait to upgrade our 0.9 installation. Anyway, we have a development server with latest Elgg to see how it goes. Thank you so much for the info.
There are 2 plugins recently released to make that migration from Elgg 0.9 to Elgg 1.5, still in early stage. You can take a look at them:
Migration tool 1.0 beta
Migration 0.9 -> 1.5 plugin for all data (0.8.0)
Please, share your experiences with that and tell us how they are working. I hope we will have a good migration procedure in a little time. :-)
