I came to elgg from oxwall and this is my first question. Many of you may know oxwall. It is flexible and user-friendly. Elgg however provides more functionality with free plugins, but it is boring. I want a simple social network.
I am trying to do following things but do not know how:
Can anyone help?

RvR,
Even though I am not a developer, but I want to make these changes. I want to learn. Can you help?
Sure ;)
Please tell me
@ Umair, Elgg can make anything on Earth that you like. I am not affiliated with elgg but as a user i can assure you that with better planning and coding, you can achieve whatever you wish to make. For example, if you want to make a site like Facebook by usiing Elgg engine, Elgg can handle that without any problem at all. for example, let say you want to make a timeline page like Facebook or Oxwall or twitter or google plus or Linkedin and others by using Elgg, Elgg can mange that. For example, I was playing with code with Elgg for a few minutes and came up with this http://myadventhome.com/facebook
Here in the community you can get some basic plugins like these ones and start from there.. for example
https://community.elgg.org/plugins/1566883
https://community.elgg.org/plugins/723329
and many more...
The main idea is not to clone manger site like Facebook but just to test what elgg is capable of accomplishing.
Remember with proper planning and developers you can make anything with Elgg engine.
Tom,
you are right, but is there someone who is willing to help. I cannot hire developers for now. I want to learn and do whatever I can myself. If you see my earlier comments in this post, I have also provided my oxwall test website with a username and password. Look at it. With the help of great people on the forum, I managed to make a website like that. Now I want to see what elgg can bring me. Two things I liked on oxwall was the language section and theme edit section. Modification friendly. I hope elgg and its community members will not let me go back to oxwall.
anybody home?
Not sure if someone already posted this but the documentations are always a great help.
