So many times folks report issues and don't include enough info about their Elgg build to be useful. If we exposed interaction with the community via the Admin ui, we could include this information by default (with the option to remove it for privacy's sake).
Similarly, when searching for plugins, we could automatically filter out plugins that aren't compatible with the current version of Elgg they are searching from.
Anybody else think this would be valuable? No promises or anything, just trying to guage interest.
Since I am currently ajaxifying the community it is natural that a nice json API falls out of that. A plugin that Elgg admins can install so they don't need to leave their Admin ui to get help seemed like it would make for a nice second client.

@Jeroen:
Regarding a link to latest release of a plugin (with regards to Elgg core version installed) you might want to take a look at the Community Web Services plugin (https://github.com/Elgg/community_web_services) which is installed on the Elgg community site. It returns the plugins repo url and download url of the latest version of a plugin. The Elgg Update Services plugin (https://github.com/TheTrueBumba/elgg_update_services) makes use of that web service already.
@Jeroen @iionly Can't find the thread but I tackled that very issue. Have just one URL for the current version and every time a new release is uploaded, push the old version and create its own URL
A plugin installer (WordPress style) is a much better plugin idea.
Another great idea is to make the Administration Dashboard independent (WordPress or Joomla style)
I just don't find this idea useful.
Just FYI i wrote this "wordpress style" plugin installer some time ago: https://github.com/Srokap/srokap_plugin_installer (don't remember if I fixed it for 1.9, probably yes)
