Hi,
Some of my plugin settins are lost after changing the parameter of other plugins,
any clue why this happens?

@Shillo
The database does have a record of changes.. I 1/2 forget the details.... but I once broke mt local test elgg like that, cried a bit, went in thru PhpMyAdmin and manually "rolled-back" the changes.
mmm, let me try that. :)
@Shillo
nope, not yet..;-(
If UD can supply a little more on "..more details of the Guid object y.." might help in reading the code.
Ok, I will wait for Ud and u?
Hi Shillo and Dhrup,
Ok, here's the procedure to make plugin settings go wild, if you can't replicate, i'll do a video to make it easier.
You need 4 plugins:
logrotate
event_calendar
izap_videos
siteaccess
Procedure is as follows:
1) Change the frequency parameter in logrotate and save.
2) Change anything in event_calendar
3) By now, Izap_videos lost its settings
4) change anything in izap_videos and save
5) After saving Izap, Site Access looses its settings (walled garden listing for example)
So this makes it even worse, because there is a chain damage effect.
The GUID Tool shows these elements:
Then, after everything is lost, you can delete the izap_videos in the GUID tool , and your siteaccess settings are recovered (and izap settings lost again).

btw yet another topic os same problem.. even more interesting reading..
http://community.elgg.org/mod/groups/topicposts.php?topic=127008&group_guid=23300
also: I am not blaming any particular PlugIn yet - it might be just another "quirk" due the sequence of events.. and the mix of too many PlugIins... but there's no conclusive evidence so far...
By the way, I just chanced upon this:
http://community.elgg.org/mod/groups/topicposts.php?topic=127008&group_guid=23300
So, were you able to replicate the problem ?
Ud, I am not using any of the plugins you have mentioned, and at any rate I can't enter into my site admin -- the login provision is gone :( though I can see the site loaded to display the main page in a wide single column.
I am wondering from where does Elgg get the info whether a certain plugin is loaded.
Shillo,
I agree with your thoughts. The GUID tool is somewhat useful for finding plugin settings. But a good understanding of database structure, would really bring administrators to the next level.
This plugin problem seems "too complicated" because of the use of entities, metastrings, and such. But a good understanding of database structure easily would solve this ignorance.
