This is interesting stuff for those who have in the past inquired of Elgg's "scalability". It seems that with some rather simple tweaking, one can "scale" Elgg (MySql) tables to be distributed over than one MySql instance on different servers. Have a read here

Sounds cool, my user database is still small though, i wonder after how many users we would require this kind of approach.
Currently im using Xcache, and it works pretty good.
