I am still at a loss after receiving several instructions from folks here in the forum. Thanks for all of you. However my problem is still unsolved. When I go to my cPanel account I don't see any feature to download external plugins directly there. The 'download' icon is displayed while selecting the 'mod' file in the directly path. Moreover, the download works only to the exsiting files there. What is that I am missing? Every plug in i have downloaded are sitting in my local desk...

You must log in to post replies. How about using this green "upload" button on the menu to upload plugins that you have on your computer?
Thanks Pawel,
Do I need to upload each of the unzipped files one by one? In that case do I have to select the default 'Mod Folder' or need to create one sub folder and upload?
You can upload the zipped files directly into the mod folder and then unzip them with in it.
Thats where I am stuck at. Instead of the zipped file I get the folder with bunch of files after download. When I click on the folder, I get bunch of individual files instead of the zipped file.
If you get the unzipped files instead of the zipped plugin archive on download, then the problem is the operating system on your local computer that unzips the archive automatically after download. Best would be to turn this automatic unzipping off.
You can also upload the unzipped plugin folder. But you need to upload the plugin folder into the mod directory and not only the files within the plugin folder.
But I couldn't upload the plug in folder coz when I begin to uplod the folder can't be selected... I will try the first option. Thanks for the response iionly.
It seems you can only upload single files with the CPanel File manager. So, I would suggest to upload the plugin zip file to the server and extract the zip file after upload in the mod directory of your Elgg installation.
Here's some info about uploading file using the CPanel File Manager: http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/cpanel/file_manager.htm.
If the plugin zip file still gets extracted automatically when you download it here from the site to your local computer, you need to figure out how to turn this off to have the zip archive of the plugin available to upload.
I bet your hosting account provides FTP access. Try looking up info about it on your hosting provider pages and connecting through FTP client like FileZilla. It will give you a way of moving whole directories easily on server.
