the book that is often recommended at universities for learning key concepts in programming is 'algorithms, data structures and problem solving' by mark weiss. maybe that's a bit old now, but still contains basic greatness.

i don't have any other specific suggestions since beyond the overview of computer/coding logic that's in that book, the other useful sources are specific to the types of coding standards that are used online, such as css, html, php and javascript/jquery - and i learned those through experimenting and reading books that are out-dated now. sql is the other language needed, which is for database manipulations.

i would start with html and css since they are the simplest to learn; then move to php/javascript and then to sql. from my experience, an effective book is usually more thorough than web walkthroughs and tutorials.
