I have uploded all files to my new database using 000Webhost.
On the second step of the installation I got this message:
I did a little bit of poking around and saw that a lot of people have had the same problem, unfortunately, nome of their fixes worked for me. I tried inserting the text RewriteBase / at the top of the .htaccess file amd also tried RewriteBase /subdirname
but had no success.
I tried it without the space before the hash, that just shut down the page entirely.
I also tried to rename htaccess_dist
to .htaccess
. but that had no effect.

well if you are seeing the install.php page then the files were uploading successfully. if you don't mind me asking, is this 000webhost gonna be used for testing purposes or are you gonna make it a production site?
btw i used the web ftp client they offer instead of using filezilla. can't seem to upload all the files and it would just cut off in mid session. so i used the zip file uploader. i zipped up elgg in 3 sections because of the 5 mb limitations
It let me do it all from one zipped folder upload.... I think. Didn't tell me there was a problem.
But I was having trouble with about 5 files not loading with filezilla.
I want to see if I can get a site up and running to generate some revenue to support a paid host. This particular account is a test account, but I will be deleting it and using 000Webhost for a live public site once I get this all worked out.
it's all easy, just upload, rewrite base then you're good
Gonna give it another try. BRB.
Trying to load on a whole new account and just got a ton of error messages trying to upload through their FTP clinet. BRB
No score. Did you rename htaccess_dist ?
I also notice that in a superior folder there is a default .htaccess
I read it, just two lines. One says do not remove, next is RewriteBase /
but I didn't touch it
if you want, i can login for you
Well, I still need to figure out what the heck I am doing wrong if I am going to install it again on another site/server. But I might take you up on that offer if you are around on the flip side of the clock. I have to take some meds and knock out for a few hours.
alright just let me know
