got the site back up none of those methods work for me need a new pluggin if anyone has a plugin that works please message me : ) and post here

i did manage to rename part of the wire in elgg core , can any one tell me how to do it correctly? though i just ranamed the menu item not the profile or activity page

@UKID - you've had at least 3 experts tell you with very detailed instructions no less than 3 different ways to do this using code, a community plugin, and plugin made especially for you.  If none of these solutions are working I think you might need to bite the bullet and hire someone to straight up do it for you.

i am sorry i do need to hire someone you are right and everyone did there best to help me though i can not afford it, just need another plugin or one of those plugins edited, i keep getting elgg control panel asking me to upgrade, the icon says upgrade i click upgrade and it still shows upgrade again, could this be anything to do with the problem? maybe it is elgg 1.8.1.6 any more tips please or advice would be appreciated even if it is  criticism and not some thing i want to hear : )

I have to correct myself. The start.php must not be totally empty. There's at least a

<?php

necessary as content. Try out http://community.elgg.org/plugins/1497293/1.8.0/elgg-18-rename-the-wire. Adjust the wording in the language file if necessary. In case you do, save the file in "UTF8 encoding without BOM" or you might introduce problems on your site.

If this plugin is still not enough I don't think anyone can help you (at least won't be willing for free).
