Follow these instructions carefully and it should work:

1. Enable the rename-wire plugin
2. Place it below the original The wire plugin
3. Flush the caches from site admin dashboard (in case cache is enabled)
4. Check the site menu: the menu item "The wire" has now changed to "Posts"

If you want to change something open the file mod/rename-wire/languages/en.php and change anything you want.

For example if you dont like the page title, change the row:

'thewire:everyone' => "All Posts",

...to this:

'thewire:everyone' => "List of all whatever thingies",

And then the title of the page www.yoursite.com/thewire/all will change to "List of all whatever thingies".

Remember to flush the caches after making changes.

i did everything you said still does not work : (

also in admin control panel it keeps saying upgrade i have upgraded a few times but still says upgrade is that some thing to do with it or no?

The string "What are you thinking? Post it on the wire!" is not even included in either The Wire or Rename-wire plugin!

Are you using any other thewire related plugin besides the rename-wire? If so, try disabling it.

i am not just the one i mentioned, lol i really do not think it is not possible with elgg 1.8.1.6 , oh wow i see hmm i just have the wire and rename the wire thats it no other wire plugin, do i need to enable any plugins like

elg developer tools , tag cloud,  ? etc

This is very possible with elgg 1.8.16 - changing language strings is pretty much the easiest thing to do

It is as simple as what Juho has already explained.  Though if you have other plugins supplying language strings you will need to copy those strings into the file you are editing and make sure that plugin is loaded last.

the plugin does not work for me, so how do i do this i am a newbie and need very basic instructions pease : ) and thankyou for your reply, once i have changed the name of the wire to posts or somthing else i have in mind my site is completed ^_^ and by the way i have no clue what i am doing lol but i will get there with very basic instructions i am sorry for not understanding what to do, i have tried all the instrcutions posted very kindly by people but still to no avail : (
