Elgg Bootcamp Deluxe
At the ElggCampAMS event i talked with a few people about coding together. The ElggCamp was just a single day event, so there was no time for coding, but we discussed it would be nice to have a few days together so we can do Elgg coding. Someone else opted we should do this at a nice location, like a tropical island or something like that. So combining business and pleasure.
I gave this idea a little thought and i thought... why not try to organize something.
So this is the current idea:
- 2 weeks (12 or 14 days) on a tropical location
- 10 developers
- coding events / hackathon
- Theme / Plugin Development
- Freestyle
- Elgg improvements
- Coding in teams of 2 or 4 persons
- Every developer prepares 1 topic
Location:
- Bali
- Tropical
- Affordable (10 person villa for 1500 per week)
Requirement is that we have a broadband connection. Best location will be decided by the people comming to the event.
Costs:
Each coder needs to pay:
- His/Her own plane ticket (some sample pricing)
- Amsterdam - Bali Retour € 800,-
- San Francisco - Bali Retour - € 1100,-
- New York - Bali Retour - € 1200,-
- Warschau - Bali Retour - € 800,-
- Hong Kong - Bali Retour - € 350,-
- Buenos Aires - Bali Retour - € 1800
- Kaapstad - Bali Retour - € 800,-
- + 500 euros for the 2 weeks stay (including food/drinks)
Each coder needs to bring:
- Programming Skills
- Developer toolkit:
- Laptop
- ...
When? May/June 2014
I need to know if there are other devs that are seriously interested in this and can/will afford it. You can see it as an advanced training camp for Elgg developers.

So i can put you both on the list? I think i will have to have 10 persons by the end of 2013 to finalize the plans. Send me a message if you are really considering attend this event, so i can put you on the list. Currently i have 3 persons interested.

Put me on the list as a very probable maybe. Still have to run the idea past my wife, but we're in the middle of moving across the country so all of our time/finances are tied up in that process right now. So chances are yes, but I won't be able to 100% commit for a couple of months yet.
This is a very interresting idea... You can count me as a quite strong maybe for now :)

600 eur/2 weeks, however cheaper flights for europe and (I think) US. A little different experience than renting something on your own. Personally I would probably prefer Bali, however there are options :)
So were would this be? Bali?
Any pricing on hotels?
@vazco i thought you would like the idea. Gran Canaria also sounds good, but i was looking for a more exclusive but still affordable location. having your own villa on the beach + personel is possible on bali for the price i mentioned. Are there more people on your team that could come? Maybe srokap?
@rjcalifornia bali is the current idea. No need for hotels because this event will be held at a villa and a bed is included for the 2 weeks stay. Would you be seriously interested?
@Jeroen, we'll see, it's also an option that someone could come with me. I would probably be able to confirm somewhere in November or December.
