Hi.. i am using Elgg through Xampp, i have a ELGG intranet site, which sometimes runs very slow
can you please help me how can i improve my site

Yes i did.. but when i am enabling Deflate in httpd.conf (LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so) , elgg stop working & give error - "Elgg error The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script".
i did the stepby step process from "http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/speed-up-apache-20-web-access-or-downloads-with-mod_deflate.html"
Please Help..
