I'm new to ELGG and I'm not nearly experienced enough to sift through the files and know what/how to edit all the files. I've been 'winging' it for the past few weeks but I've come across a problem. I don't want to have the site name show up in the header/topbar as the text site name you fill out in the Dashboard but rather use and image that's been created for the banner/logo.
I changed the topbar height and other necessary values(or so I thought) and then I added in the css file the required coding for my image to show up but it didn't work, it didn't load and everything else was thrown off in regards to positioning. So if/when I get the image to work I'll be going back through and adjusting all the positioning values for the main content, elgg main, etc.
I took some classes in html, css, brefily went over some php and javascript but I definitely don't know all I need to know. It's kind of over my head right now, I was hoping to learn as I go and teach myself. I got the plugin/mod installed and working, changed the color scheme, thought it would be simple to add my logo in the header and here I am....feeling like a nub.
Can anyone help?

@Matt how does that content debugger work? ive installed it and i go to the site and hover over stuff but nothing happens...
im guessing that logo thing doesnt work with the facebook theme cause its just not cooperating at all
frustrating
So I found a guide to replace the title name to a image logo when using the default elgg theme but so far i haven't been able to get it to work with the facebook theme
http://blog.arvixe.com/how-to-replace-the-default-elgg-1-8-title-with-an-image/
adding this piece of code worked with the default elgg theme:
<a href=”<?php echo $site_url; ?>”><imgsrc=”<?php echo $site_url; ?>_graphics/image_logo.png”/></a>
i've read through the elgg documentation on views and started to just read everything there is but its not very detailed or informative to someone who doesn't know what they're looking at. Its like reading a spanish book when you dont know the language, yeah i can read it but i have no idea what its saying.
This facebook theme is a pain in the ass, i'm making updates to the facebook_theme/views/default/page/elements/header.php file and it doesn't matter what I do there is NO change at all, I have the cache turned off or whatever, I can make other changes like color scheme wise and those changes take. I even deleted header.php and saved it as a blank file and nothing changed with the facebook theme.
Am I trying to edit the wrong files? I read the documentation on Views and I should be in the right place.
Chances are you're modifying the wrong files, or the files you're modifying are being overwritten by another plugin.
Use that content debugger plugin I listed earlier - when logged in as admin it puts a toggle link in the topbar - if your theme doesn't have a topbar you can enble it just by going to [siteurl]/content_debugger/toggle

I could findn't yet how to replace the logo-text once logged in, but I replaced it on the homepage via
../facebook_theme/views/defaults/page/elements/header.php
There I changed the content as followed.
$site = elgg_get_site_entity();
echo "<a href='http://yoursite.url/' title='YourSitesName'><img style='margin:20px 0 0 10px' src='http://yourlogo.url' border='0' width='160' height='44' style='float: left;' /></a>";
echo elgg_view_form('login', array('id' => 'facebook-header-login'));
Note that echo " between the echo " " are replaced with ' f.ex href='http://yoursite.url/' instead of href="http://yoursite.url/"
(change the width, hight and margin according to your needs... and off course also the URL and title.)
Not sure if you guys solved your problem but this is the plugin I used to solver my header problem:

Just remeber the advice these veterans always give us: "Never mess with the core". There's always a plugin out there for you or you can create one.
@nextgenlabor, thanks. i'll try
