Hello,
Can I change the pages or blog plugin somewhat. So only the administrator can add a page/blog so this shows on the front page. And you see a thumbnail image and 10 lines of text. When you click the text, title, or image. You can read the full news article.
Or is there some plugin out there that does this?
Thanks

Not sure about anyone else, but I taught myself php from the docs and a few online tutorials, plus a number of n00b question emails to some friends who knew what they were doing.
As far as Elgg specifically, I learned it here, from the community, the docs (reference.elgg.org), and most importantly reverse engineering/dissecting core plugins.
i guess i misunderstood based on what steve is saying. i thought he wanted a news plugin like the blogs plugin that could be displayed on the main (activity) page in an excerpt......thats what i have.
i havent learned anything, im still a noob, but follow what matt said and php.net, w3schools.com are good places to start also.
where... learn?
why ? the same place everyone else learns!
inside the head !;X
is there any other place to do it ?
ok.. joke's over!
learn = desire + hard work + desire + hard work + hard work + work
got that !!
i learned php in 2001/2 because i needed some software base to
build an app and did not have $5000 per pop to just test optiions!
if you want to learn zero, download the two plugins i mentioned earlier, combine them into 1, then customize the way you want. like matt said reverse engineering. you see your work in progress, and know if you screw up or not. you get what you want, with no wait and cost $0. then you can upload and share
win, win for everybody :)
Screwing up is the best way to learn, honestly.
yep, especially when you are a beginner and forget to make a backup........screwing up teaches you quick :)
i learned php from elgg :)
anybody got some interesting news about such plugin. Perhaps coupling a wordpress to elgg would be a solution?
