Any news on a new version of Elgg?

I don't know if it's all about autumn and the lack of good disposition but in the last 2 months not too much happened with Elgg and the community.
Somebody knows any news regarding future Elgg versions? Will it be soon a transition Elgg 1.8.9 available for download as I heard a while back or this has been axed and the next update will be just the 1.9 itself and it's still to early to speak about a release or atlast a downloadable beta version?

You must log in to post replies.Next version will be 1.8.9, I don't know any kind of ETA. There are a number of fairly big changes with it (the aformentioned metadata pre-caching for example). I think the hold up is possibly with insufficient testing...

Oh, now I understand. And there is no chance to get maybe an alpha version of the upcoming 1.8.9 or it is around here and I don't see it?
There's no alpha version available. You might want to try the latest nightly builts at
http://elgg.org/download/nightly/
or you can download the latest development version at
https://github.com/Elgg/elgg
But these versions are surely not intended for normal use. They are development snapshots that could likely be in a non-working development state.
The hold up is with insufficient time. The core team has been swamped with personal and professional life the last few months.
Ah I see ... maybe atlast 1.8.9 will be available before Christmass
