I am considering the role of groups in a K12 Elgg. Should students be able to create a group? If so, should they be able to make it private?
I am considering making alternatives to the group plugin. One would only allow admins to create groups. The other would allow them to create them, but only with a public setting.
Thoughts?

I am all for students creating groups but they shouldn't be private unless the group is managed by a teacher. Thus, the student would go to the teacher with the group idea and the teacher could create it with themselves at the helm. That sounds tough to program so you could make the plugin that makes admins the only one who can create groups - then at the request of the teacher, create the student group and make it private if the teacher wants it.
