Hi,
İZAP video seems to be the most popular (by recommendations) among the video plugins for elgg. As far as I can see, it is the only one which allows you to upload files.
What I wonder is, is it also popular in terms of use in real-life? I mean, are there any sites which uses it without major issues?
Regards.

You must log in to post replies.Izap is a good video plugin, if you use it only for embedding. However, if you wanna use it to upload and convert, it will overload your server.
You will need to get a vps or dedicated if you want Izap for uploading and processing video. I've done installations in the past and seem to be very stable. Of course it was on a dedicated server.

i already spoke with İşöğünçı on this topic; i'll add it here for others to respond to:
i have always, in 2+ years of having izap videos installed, had errors thrown when adding youtube/vimeo videos saying 'invalid url'.. i had phases of it working and presently, phases of it not working.. with no explanation of why..
i haven't gone through the code here, i just don't have the will presently to do that.
Rodolfo thank you for your reply. In terms of specifications, it seems to be pretty good. But the lack of activity, reported issues etc on its web page and plugin page gives the impression that it is not really used anymore or so.
I think, only for embed purposes, I would rather go for embed_extender or videolist. They seem to be simpler to get going than more izap-video with more functionality. Are there other plugins which allow upload as well as embed?
regards.
Not really. I could recommend you use Veeplayer for elgg 1.8 It uses the files plugin for upload and it displays it with no issues.
It is not heavy on the server. However it only takes mp4, mov, and flv video formats. It is very stable.
It does not embed. You would have to use both veeplayer and embed extender.

If you are looking for an embedding solution try http://community.elgg.org/plugins/740863/1.4/videos-plugin-for-elgg-18.
Izap plugin can be used in case you want onserver video upload. But most of the times you need a dedicated server for proper functioning of the plugin.
Thank you all for the information. I shall try them all.
Hi Guys,
yes i know, we were not contributing in conversation. I apologise for that, And i'm trying to improve this now. But i always keep eye on these discussion. And as i get time i found couple of more solutions which will solve the problem of having "onServer" flavor without the support of dedicated resources.
yes, we are continue developing features on our github.com/pluginlotto/izap-videos. and fixing bugs reported in the community. And in this week, i will upload new version of izap-elgg-bridge and izap-videos which would be compatible with elgg latest version. And it would allow you to have "YouTube" upload feature. So you will be able to allow end users to upload videos via youTube developer API.
We are done with this feature and fix couple of bugs too. And these days we are under testing phase. I would like if you guys can help us to put your feedback by installing current version of http://github.com/pluginlotto/izap-elgg-bridge and http://github.com/pluginlotto/izap-videos
