Is there an MIT version of 1.8 available? If not, when will this be relased?

I've updated my pull request to use SimpleXML and tested it successfully with core unit tests. Would be great if someone has a moment to review this pull request: https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/pull/348
Srokap, thanks for update. Nice to see it moving forward.
I've just made pull request with autop replacement from Steve Clay: https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/pull/420
Sweet! I'm glad you went this way. I tried that too for the Linkup plugin, so I guess at some point it could hook to the internal code via a plugin hook in elgg-autop.
I realize it might come late, but as the autop() function has a reputation of being voodo, I made a thorough analysis of it, only to find out that behind its dreadful appearance, what it does is pretty straightforward in the end... Except for that one single line that looks to me as a pure mistake, but that might as well unleash some secret regexp power.

As I put in my conclusion, I'm glad that it is going away soon.
