I tried to update the about page and now my site looks like a skeleton.
Can anyone tell me how to fix it please?

For switching https on http open your settings file elgg-config/settings.php and change value of $CONFIG->wwwroot on the right URL.
Well... I opened settings.php an I found that it isn't set to https...
I also went to phpMyAdmin to view my database. I selected the config table and found there was no row with the name https_login.
Run 'Flush the caches' via Administration
I flushed the caches... no change :(
Where is the .htaccess file?
In your Elgg root installation directory
It would seem I have no .htaccesss file.
Perhaps, something wrong during Elgg installation.
You can use .htaccess from unziped archive https://elgg.org/about/getelgg?forward=elgg-3.3.4.zip
It was working fine though... I was trying to edit the about page when things went haywire..
Although I didn't see the file in my filemanager, when I went to upload the file it said the file already exists...
I changed permissions to show hidden files. ( dot files)
Hey... I DO have a .htaccess file.
go figure
Delete all files/folder and database and re-install your elgg while your project on the start stage yet.
