I am thinking of dropping support for specifying notification preferences for individual friend collections and instead creating a scalable solution that simply lists individual users that the person is subscribed to (friends, followers et al). Current implementation is unbearable, refactored solution (https://github.com/Elgg/Elgg/pull/10287) is still bad and inefficient.
So, here is a poll question:
1. I don't care about such level of granularity as long as I can opt out from notifications from individual users
2. I would like to keep notification settings for collections of friends, but move them to the Edit collection form
3. I would like to keep it as is.
4. Drop support for editable friends collections altogether?!

but mainly from a dev perspective... Probably 2 from a user perspective
Ideally we could migrate settings (to whatever extent possible) to 1.
I'm fine with 1 or 2, not fine with 4
I have updated the PR today. I have simplified everything to barebones. There is still an option to set settings for friend collections, but it no longer updates settings for individual members. User and group lists are paginated, so the whole thing becomes scalable. I am thinking of moving user subscriptions into their own page like groups.
