Elgg 2.0.0-beta.1 is now available for download. This pre-release is meant for early testers and plugin developers. Please do not use it in production.
The release doesn't introduce any remarkable changes compared the previous alpha.3 version. There are mainly just some internal tweaks.
It says not to use for production purpose, but i want to try it on my new portal designed to help education and employment space.
It currently runs on wordpress. I am planning to move or integrate Elgg in NicAcResults.com to improve its social engagement and user management.
The blog currently publishes latest jobs in govt, private, banking and IT space. Also covers exam dates, admit cards, results, etc.

You must log in to post replies.I'm already using 2.0.0-beta.1 on one production site. On next Monday I'll upgrade another site from 1.8 to 2.0.
But note that I'm in the Elgg core team, so I know what I'm doing. :) If you're completely new to Elgg, I'd recommend waiting for the stable 2.0.0 release.
in case of migrating from Wordpress to elgg, u might loose all your google ranking too. since the URL will be changed. had you thought of it? that may be fine if portal is new .
but if portal is old I recommend to go for buddypress.
You don't need to change the URL in order to migrate from wordpress to Elgg.
Ok, based on the last two weeks on using Elgg 2.0.0-beta.1 on two production sites, I can say I *DO NOT* recommend doing it yet!
Wait until the stable 2.0.0 version is released. :)
I do however recommend doing a lot of testing in test environments! Best way would be to duplicate a real Elgg 1.12.x production site into a test environment and trying out the Elgg 2.0 upgrade and the new features there.
The more there are people testing and debugging Elgg 2.0, the faster we'll get the first stable version out!
@Juho (and / or the other core devs) would it still be possible to get a elgg-2.0.0-beta.2.zip like the beta1 for testing purposes? If it should already be available then something might have gone wrong in the release process because it isn't.
Yeah, I was supposed to make the zip but I ran out of time. I'll try to find time to make it.
That would be really good; I would like to join the testing too (without git/composer).
