I am reading the instructions on how to install elgg in my root directory of my site. My provider is Dreamhost. I extracted all files within my root and created a MySQL database name and privilege. The instructions said to "open my elgg site" but what is it? Also when I opened one (www.mysitename.com/elgg) it said the statement below and I am trying to fix it:
The requested URL /elgg was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Can you show me a screenshot where you uploaded Elgg? I'm using nginx so yours should look similar:
Ok I see part of your problem, your folder for elgg is elgg-1.10.2
Rename the folder to elgg
Then go to this url http://ortchannel/elgg and you should get the installation. I just did when I went to http://ortchannel/elgg-1.10.2 but you don't want to keep it named elgg-1.10.2
I see now, Dan is right! You should move everything from elgg-1.10.2 folder to ortchannel.com folder.
I thought you knew some basic CLI since you have a VPS. I really gotta stop assuming.
Well I am a CS major in my 4th year, but my host is really confusing based on the instructions they gave me.
