Hi,
I've installed a new copy of elgg 1.5rc1 on GoDaddy:
For some reason all javascript functionality is not working. On my local xamp installation everything works, so I guess it has something to do with the godaddy environment.
When viewing the source I noticed that the links in the header are cached using the new simplecache. In addition new loaded profile images are shown as broken images as well (also going through the caching mechanism),
Any help will be appreciated,
Guy

OK, disabling simplecache makes no difference.
It may very well be that Godaddy simply does not like the js URL format as Dhrup suggests above and this has nothing to do with simplecache.
So go ahead and turn simplecache back on.
I'll look at the js simplecache code and see if I can find out why the URL is written that way and whether there is an alternative.

Does Elgg make use of CURL?
GoDaddy uses a proxy server which intereferes (at least) with CURL...
Hi Dhrup,
So as I can see, the problem is that GoDaddy's web server does not like the JS url format.
This was more conventional under previous versions of Elgg.
I believe that it is written that way to get around certain browser JS caching issues.
I've written to the Curverider team to point out the problem and to ask if they might have an alternative.
OK,
Having looked at the code a bit more, I believe that this is the issue:
The JS URL format works with many web servers, but not all.
It is intended to prevent browsers from caching JS after the site is upgraded or plugins have been enabled or disabled.
It is therefore important to keep the magic number there.
I *suspect* that changing this to the more conventional
lastcache=<?php echo $vars['config']->lastcache; ?>
format used for the CSS URL should fix the problem, but am awaiting a response from Curverider on that.
Thanks Kevin!
I can confirm that this works, and has been rolled into the code for the final release. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for helping bugfix Elgg :)
Thanks for the fix, the responsiveness of this community is awsome!
We'd like to test this on some GoDaddy setups this morning. If you've been affected by this problem and would like to test the latest Elgg, could you email me on ben@elgg.com? I'll then send a zip through. Thanks!
