@MJ
You never said anything about wanting to save your groups, posts, etc data when we did the usernames data copy ;-O
If you still have the old site's database... We and *I can retrieve that data ;-)

InvalidParameterException
All files must have an owner!
I spoke too soon
Server reboot because of hanging. on reboot we got the above.
There is definitely something seriously wrong with this situation
Advice for others to keep your site running
Disable any plug-ins and widgets that list latest members. We know this because we have too much experience with this and we know how to keep our site running as we have encountered this now 7 times
This is a clean install of elgg running for a couple of weeks this is now 7 times
We are running on a semi dedicated server with over 11,000 members and approximately 20 to 40 people online all the time. We usually have approximately one new sign up every 10 minutes
Something during reboot is causing this We need (as a community) to get this sorted out
https://trac.elgg.org/elgg/ticket/1041
This error is thrown in /engine/lib/filestore.php:
public function getFilenameOnFilestore(ElggFile $file)
{
$owner = $file->getOwnerEntity();
if (!$owner)
$owner = get_loggedin_user();
if ((!$owner) || (!$owner->username)) throw new InvalidParameterException(elgg_echo('InvalidParameterException:MissingOwner'));
return $this->dir_root . $this->make_file_matrix($owner->username) . $file->getFilename();
}

It wasn't - I just created that trac item. I also just added a patch that provides a better error message - it tells you the guid of the file that doesn't have an owner.
