Hi There!
I have a problem regarding the installation of Elgg. If I want to save the Config in the second screen and get the 404 error
I did all the things in the Troubleshooting FAQ, tested the mod_rewrite positive, filled in the .htaccess the line
RewriteBase /test/elgg/ for my subfolder but still the same error.
Does anyone have an idea, what I can do?
Thanks a lot!
Best, _Eru

Eru, you need to tell us what url is giving the 404 error (as in what page does it say it can't find).
Thanks for the link, I forgot.
The message is: The requested URL /test/elgg/action/systemsettings/install was not found on this server.
That points to a subdirectory - issue, I added: RewriteBase /test/elgg/ to .htaccess in my elgg-folder. (My whole URL is: http://www.myurl.de/test/elgg/index.php) and the error occures, after install verified the database-connection as working and asks for some Config of the site...
Best, Eru
The error message means the mod_rewrite rule is not being picked up. I recommend taking the mod_rewrite test and seeing if you can get it to work when the files are in /test/elgg
http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Mod_rewrite_test
I already did that test, sorry did not mention it especially, and it worked fine.
EDIT:
hmm hang on,
now I re-tested and it is not working anymore... I will start from the scratch again, setting up the server and database totally new. It will take some time, bc I have some other things to do, but I will come back to you ASAP ;)
Thx a lot!
Best, Eru
OK, here we are...
mod_rewrite is working but still the same error.
I recognised, that there is only the standard .htaccess file, noting is modified by elgg so far... is that the reason why?
Should I use the htaccess_dist to modify?
Yieeeeha!
Got it! It was just not mentioned in the doc, that you should use the htaccess_dist in the elgg-distribution.
I edited the file accourding to my needs and changed it to .htaccess And it worked, so that I can now input my first user...
I will add this to the wiki...
