I realize that this may have already been discussed, but I cannot find it through the search on this site! So, I am posting this, hoping for a possible tweak or fix or suggestion from someone.
I see that if someone tries to register on the site and misenters the captcha, they are redirected back to the home page. Does this have an intended purpose, besides the fact that it would TERRIBLY annoy a potential member of my site so badly that they give up right away and forget about trying to register?!

I don't know why the forward(REFERER) is not working and haven't had a chance to check into it.
Okay! Fair enough! Thanks!
Aha, of course! Except, I slightly modified it:
Do you have a sticky form solution, Leonidas?
This article looks nice:

I think I may try to work through it. But if someone has already done it, I would love to see it, if you're so inclined to share. ;-)
Sorry, I don't have a sticky form solution. It never even occurred to me until you brought this up. :-)
Sticky forms for Elgg are coming: http://github.com/cash/stickyforms
The best solution is to use what I posted earlier (I tested it on 1.7.2 and it works - won't work with versions before 1.7.2). I committed the change so it will be part of Elgg 1.7.3. (The reason it is better is that if your user requests a password reset, they are asked to do the captcha and if they fail they are sent to register page using the suggested logic.)
re:stickyforms - Oh, very cool, Cash. I'll beta test your stickyforms!
re:the best solution - The problem is, it is not working. It is taking me back to the home page, on failed registration (with a mis-entered captcha). This is WAY too abrupt and will turn off potential members. #1, are you sure that it is working properly? #2, is there a better solution?
I do understand the problem with the request password reset. That is definitely a problem, based on the solution we tried to implement here on the register form.
Maybe a totally different captcha needs to be used? One that won't do that? ...I don't want to use recaptcha. Maybe HN Captcha:
http://hn273.users.phpclasses.org/package/1569-PHP-Generate-a-form-or-formpart-with-a-CAPTCHA-picture.html
By the way, I just saw the new PHP Classes redesigned site! WOW! Amazing! What a facial makeover, if ever did see one! If you saw the old version, you'll be going wow WoW WOW!
(I realize it probably has nothing to do with the actual captcha. It's the form. ...I was just "thinking out loud." Probably not totally logical.)
I have no idea why it is not working for you. If you put error_log(REFERER); into the code, what is written to your server's error log?
