I'm new to Elgg, and what i wanted to do was install it on my computer
using XAMPP so i could have a little play around with the site. Now i
followed one guide from a Google Elgg forum however, i couldnt get it working (http://groups.google.com/group/elgg-users/browse_thread/thread/e6322c5933216cdf),
so i headed over to Elgg's Offical Site and did this tutorial,
http://docs.elgg.org/wiki/Install_XAMPP. Now, when installing Elgg,
you can either choose to do it manually, or via that web page, ive
tried both still nothing, however, when i do use that webpage, it
doesnt seem to rename that setting.example.php file. The error i get
is this:
Server error!
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete
your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in
a CGI script.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

You must log in to post replies.are you installing elgg in the root directory or inside a folder? for example
localhost or localhost/elgg?
yeah, its located at http://localhost/xampp/sites/elgg/
However, now its shown this error, its asif in the browser the folder is empty, however, its not
you're suppose to put your elgg files in the folder called htdocs, that's the default root folder in every xampp installation. try putting it there and then type in localhost/elgg
yeah, it is in there. when i see the actual files its C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\sites\elgg\elgg-1.7.6
but for the browser view its http://localhost/xampp/sites/elgg/
you don't really have to place it in xampp folder but it's easier if you place it outside of xampp folder. place here in this directory
C:\xampp\htdocs\elgg
not in this directory
C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp
yes dont put inside xampp....just in htdocs.....and rename elgg1.7.6 to elgg....
unzip it in elgg.....not inside elgg/elgg1.7.6
i guess pictures would help lol, well i'm going to bed. i'll check this thread out when i wake up!
yes!! that worked! Thanks alot guys, gunna have a mess around with it before i let it loose on the web haha
no problem
