- 'sudo apt-get install php-openid', and remove the openid library from this plugin,
- replace the openid library that's bundled with this library with a much newer version.

You must log in to post replies.go to the plugin section and search "openid" Kevin Jardines is the latest offering.

Does the other one not work either? If not, alas, I have no idea. But you could ask Kevin for advice... he's an expert. Mark
How might we contact him for advice?
The plugin is giving me:
IOException
Unable to save new object's base entity information!
when I try to log in with Verisign, and
OpenID authentication failed: https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id is not a valid OpenID URL.
when I try to log in using Google as the OpenID provider.
Solved it.
Apparently this plugin has a very old version of the php-openid library.
2 ways to make it work are either to:
or
I'm in a hosted environment. Not sure I have those options.
Any chance of the plug-in being updated?
Option #2 is the way to go in a hosted environment.
@evan please tell me more!
I think we need a "complete" OpenID implementation...
* Option to require OpenID of all users (WordPress plugin does this)
* Replace login box with one that only supports OpenID w/ Register link that only supports OpenID
More requirements:
* Method for admin or user to affiliate openid account with existing elgg accounts. (Wordpress does this)
The bottom line is, if more of us adopt OpenID, and we make it the plug-in all encompassing, then we can get out of the authentication business and leave a huge chunk of the SPAM protection to the OpenID providers. If we report SPAMMERS to OpenID, they will expell them. Then we can get on with our lives!
